Gary Hattem is Managing Director of Deutsche Bank and heads its Foundation and Community Development Finance Group. He is responsible for the firm's lending, investment and philanthropic activities targeted at disadvantaged communities, and oversees the firm's corporate citizenship activities for the Americas.
Mr. Hattem established the Community Development Finance Group when he joined Deutsche Bank in 1990 and has earned the firm a reputation as an innovative leader in the field of private sector investment in distressed communities.
In addition to this community development focus, Mr. Hattem is the President of the Deutsche Bank Americas Foundation managing its philanthropic program with grants made in the fields of education, arts and the environment, as well as community development. He also oversees the bank's regional commitment to the Fine Arts.
Mr. Hattem has a Masters Degree in City and Regional Planning from Pratt Institute and holds many leadership positions in philanthropy, and community reinvestment. Most notably, he is a Trustee of Pratt Institute, Chairman of Living Cities, Chairman of the Global Commercial Microfinance Consortium and President of the DB Microcredit Development Fund. He is a former member of the Federal Reserve Board's Consumer Advisory Council and was Chairman of its Housing and Community Affairs Committee.
Prior to joining Deutsche Bank, Gary Hattem was the first Executive Director of the St. Nicholas Neighbourhood Preservation Corporation, a non-governmental organisation. Under his 15-year leadership the organisation was successful in revitalizing the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn and was recognised as a pioneering community development corporation.
