Dr. Wan Yan Hai is an AIDS activist, independent researcher in the field of Public Health, and Director of the Beijing AIZHIXING Institute of Health Education. He is currently Visiting Researcher at the Social Psychology Institute of China Renmin University and Coordinator of the AIZHI Action Project, an NGO dedicated to HIV/AIDS related issues (www.aizhi.org).
During the last ten years Dr. Yan Hai has focused on safe sex education in relation to HIV/AIDS, gay and lesbian rights, mental health, the rights of people affected by HIV/AIDS, law and policy, and religious issues through his work. Dr. Yan Hai was founder and coordinator of the AIDS Helpline at the China National Health Education Institute (1992-1993) and Director of the Department of Health and Anthropology at Beijing's Modern Management College (1994-1999). He was also a Visiting Scholar at the Centre for Feminist Research at the University of Southern California (1997-1998).
Dr. Yan Hai's publications include Fallen Shepherd: Comparison of Abstinance-Only Education and Safer Sex Education, Research on the Unification Church and its Front, International Education Foundation (2000), How to create Law on HIV/AIDS, AIZHI Action Project Beijing (2000), A Strange Love Affair: Chinese Authorities Embrace the Unification Church's Teaching on Sexuality, China Rights Forum (2000), and China Health News and the Henan Province Health Scandal Cover-up (2001).
