Zamyn

Zamyn, meaning 'the ground' in farsi, explores culture - not as a commodity or casualty of an increasingly interconnected world, but as a global driving force at the heart of these connections. Through multi-disciplinary and international perspectives Zamyn analyses and communicates on how culture influences, and is influenced by economic globalisation.

Culture, often equated with essentialist notions of the 'Arts', 'high' or 'popular' culture, is considered by Zamyn as the system of values, symbols and practices that underpin the socio-cultural fabric of the everyday in all its complexities. What distinguishes one people from another across the developed and developing world is the way in which the perception and interpretation of these values, symbols and practices diverge and converge. Zamyn examines culture as a framework of meaning that mediates collective interpretations of the world as we know it, with an emphasis on cultural change as a driver of economic globalisation, and as a wider process that we are often unaware of.
